FAQs

Why Choose Our Company?
  • We are a small firm. We believe that this allows us to seriously focus on our customers, our customer service, and delivering services that our customers pay for and truly deserve. We certainly want to grow our business but not at the expense of losing customers due to hurried technicians, missing appointments and overselling routes. Our customer churn rate is low and our employee retention is high. A perfect recipe for success.
  • Offering profit based incentives motivate employees and instill a sense of pride in what they do. Too many times companies fail to recognize the technicians/employees for who they are and what they do. When that occurs employee retention becomes a problem and technicians become a “Dime a Dozen”. This helps build and retain relationships with our clients.
  • Our technicians are trained by a certified expert within the business and continuing education courses are required to ensure they are current on the latest techniques and application methods.
  • Our employees are professional, courteous and punctual. They simply take pride in what they do. Wearing clean uniforms, performing regular maintenance on their service equipment, keeping their vehicle clean, and making sure they are abreast of the latest technology and techniques is not something you can train. Hiring the right motivated individuals is key. They are respectful and will do what they can to help. Remember it’s their route, their job, and their profits.
  • All technicians drive clean, safe, and professional appearing vehicles.
  • All technicians are registered with the State of Florida.
  • All technicians render quick response service calls, usually within a 24 hours period
  • We tout over 18 years of experience in the pest control industry
  • Our employees utilize state-of-the-art pest management programs and will gladly show you what we have to offer.

What makes us Different from other pest control companies?

Preventing pests from entering your Miami home is probably the single most important step in ridding unwanted pests the natural way. That’s why our technicians focus on the outside of the home first.

Many pest control companies spray pesticides “everywhere” in an effort to gain control over pests in the home. Unfortunately, this approach leaves those chemicals in places where your family members and pets can come in contact with them.

One of the main components of our natural IPM integration solution is “Exclusion”. Our goal is to create a tight seal around your home so that pests and rodents cannot find entrance ways. We believe this is a more natural, customized and healthier approach to pest management. Our programs are designed to prevent and control even the toughest pests! Using natural baits, gels, and natural pesticides on the outside of the house help protect the inside from those unwanted intruders.

We proudly offer a natural (IPM) Integrated Pest Management approach in each scenario, while determining the most effective, safest and most natural combination of products, methods and application techniques to manage your individual pest problem. Naturally, serving Miami florida, Dade, Broward, and all surrounding areas.

How to choose the right pest control company

What You Should Know

Courtesy of the Department of Florida

Pest management, like any kind of business, is a joint venture between the company and the customer. As with many businesses, the customer may have difficulty judging whether he/she has received the most skilled efforts for his/her money. This information is a Smart Shopper Courtesy from New Era Pest Management that should help customers objectively look at the service they are buying and to determine its merit.

Organization of Miami Pest Management Companies

Miami Pest Management Companies are operated by people who usually have been assigned to specific responsibilities within a firm. The general categories for personnel in a Pest Control firm are: business license holder, manager, certified operator, salesmen, and Pest management Service Technicians.

The BUSINESS LICENSE HOLDER is the person who is licensed by the responsible state agency, to operate a Pest Control Business. The business license holder is responsible for records, reports, advertising, and personal protective measures. All records of Pest Control activities, including contracts, must be kept at the business location or at a specified location registered with the responsible state agency. The license holder also takes responsibility for the accuracy of advertising and for protecting employees with necessary equipment for safe pesticide application.

The CERTIFIED OPERATOR is in charge of the Miami pest management activities of the business license holder. The certified operator is the real professional in the company who has demonstrated competence in pest control and supervision of such work. Certified operators must pass a rigid examination to demonstrate competence. In order to qualify to take the examination, they usually must have a minimum of three years of documented employment in pest control or a college degree with advanced training or a major in entomology, ornamental horticulture, or pest control technology.
Certified operators may become certified in four categories: general household pest control including rodent control, termites or other wood-destroying organisms, lawn and ornamental pest control, and fumigation. Companies which have operators certified in all four categories may offer total pest control services; otherwise they may offer only the services for which they have a certified operator.

In the company, the certified operator is responsible for the training and supervision of personnel in the use of methods and equipment which are known to provide the best pest control. He selects the pesticides and assigns only properly trained and qualified personnel to perform pest control work. All safety practices such as safe storage, application, and disposal of pesticides are his responsibility. The quality of the service technicians in the company are a reflection of the quality of the certified operator.

The SALESMAN is hired to inspect the premises, determine the extent of the problem, and give estimates for pest control work to be performed. The salesman is sent to “sell” the company and its services to the customer. This is often a free service and customers should “shop around” to be certain the diagnosis of the problem is correct and the estimate is reasonable.

The SERVICE TECHNICIAN is the individual who does the actual pest management work. The quality of the control of pests depends to a large degree on the training the technician has received and the professionalism of the technician on the job.

How to Select Pest Management Services Wisely

Your first contact with a pest management company may be through a salesman. A salesman is sent to sell you pest management services. Salesmen are ambitious and some have been known to tell customers that a specific service is necessary when none is required. Selling unnecessary pest management services is prohibited by the pest control laws. However, homeowners must buy pest management services wisely.

The following steps should be taken by homeowners to buy wisely:

  1. Shop around for the best service at a reasonable price
  2. If you do not know how to recognize an infestation or damage, ask the salesman to show it to you. He must have evidence to recommend treatment
  3. Have the salesman certify in writing that the premise or structure is infested with a specific pest and that a treatment is required
  4. You may confirm the salesman’s diagnosis by sending evidence of the pest or damage he shows you to the Cooperative Extension Service office in your county. An unbiased opinion may insure the proper treatment
  5. Get opinions from two or more pest management firms before deciding on expensive and extensive treatments
  6. Read the proposed contracts carefully so you know exactly what the company will do and guarantee. Ask the salesman to interpret parts that you do not understand
  7. Check with the Better Business Bureau to be certain the company has a clean record.

By following these procedures you are more likely to buy the services you need and want.

What to Look For In Delivery of Pest Management Services

All company employees who come to your house reveal the professionalism of the firm. Look for the following:

  1. Is the vehicle in which they arrived dirty and messy? Is the vehicle plainly marked with the name of the company with whom you are dealing?
  2. While performing the job, are they considerate, courteous, and careful with your belongings?
  3. Do they replace the items they move to do the job?
  4. Are they organized or must they continually run to the truck/car for supplies?
  5. Does the Pest Management technician present himself as clean and professional?

If you are impressed with all the factors about the technicians, you have reason to believe they may be conscientious in their performance of pest control. However, all these are superficial and not alone a true indication of the effectiveness of the services they have rendered.
There are several direct indications of the quality of pest control services the company is delivering. Companies that are concerned about your safety will follow several basic rules. These are:

  1. Pesticides should never be diluted in your home or place of business. Pesticides should always be diluted in or at the service vehicle or at the pest management company business location. Any applicator who dilutes pesticide in your home is not using approved pest control practices.
  2. The pest control technician should always leave the service equipment and pesticides in a locked pest control vehicle or service compartment when not using them.
  3. Pesticides should be applied indoors with low pressure to prevent splashing and runoff. Any spills or puddles should be wiped up immediately by the pest control technician(s). They should come into your home with rags, etc. to wipe up accidental spills if one should occur.
  4. Pesticides should never be applied to food products, utensils, or to surfaces that food will contact.
  5. Pest control applicators should be prepared to protect caged pets by covering them and should shut off air pumps in fish tanks. If cages are removed from rooms, they should check them to make sure they are free of pests.
  6. The pest control technician should never apply water based pesticides to electrical equipment.
  7. You should be warned by the pest control technician to keep children and pets off lawns until the chemical has dried if such service is performed at your miami location.
  8. Poison baits must be placed where children or pets cannot get to them.
  9. The pest management professional should point out any damage present before spraying, such as stains, burns, etc., so you will not think that the pest control technician is at fault or caused the problem.
  10. Pest control technicians should never give or sell pesticides to customers. Never ask the pest control professional to give or sell you a pesticide.
  11. Children’s toys, mattresses, and bedding should never be sprayed with pesticides.

Complaints About Pest Management Firms

It is against the law for a pest management firm or its employees to perform pest control in a negligent manner. It is also against the law for any pest management firm or its employees to knowingly make false or fraudulent claims, misrepresent, the effects of materials or methods, or fail to use methods or materials suitable for the pest control undertaken. Fraudulent or misleading advertising is also against the law.

Pest Control firms cannot tell you that a pest is infesting your property or structure, or tell you that a specific treatment for pest control is required, unless supporting evidence of an infestation exists.

A pest control firm violating the law may have its license or certificate suspended or revoked if the claims are proven. If you have a pest control complaint regarding any negligence, fraudulent claims, or improper use of materials and methods, contact your county or state agency responsible for regulating pest control companies.

What Chemicals Do You Use?

Some of the Pest Control Products we use to protect your family and pets include Pyrethrins (African Daisy extracts), Diatomaceous Earth (silicon dioxide), Piperonyl Butoxide (synthetic sassafras oils), and many more. We also use natural deturant methods, exclusion, and many more simplistic pest management techniques, ensuring the safety of your home, family and pets. Below is a simple breakdown of some of the more common pest control products used.

Fast Knockdown from African Daisy Extract – Pyrethrins

Pyrethrins are oily liquid esters, carefully refined from flowers of the Chrysanthemum family commonly known as the ‘African Daisy’. Until recently, grown in only exotic, out-of-the-way places such as East Africa, India and New Guinea, it is now cultivated in otherwise suitable, non-traditional locations such as Australia. Virtually no known negative effect to mammals and birds, this well understood, well documented, pesticide acts on insects’ central and peripheral nervous systems by causing immediate paralysis.

What then is the advantage of Pyrethrum over man-made insecticides? Oddly, its advantage is the same as its disadvantage, until it is combined with Diatomaceous Earth, or DE. When Pyrethrum is exposed to conditions of the natural environment such as the UV light in sunshine, it rapidly oxidizes and breaks down into naturally occurring compounds. It kills insects quickly, but then it disappears. That is useful in many ways, particularly when dealing with stored food or crops to be harvested the next day. When combined properly with DE the life of Pyrethrum can be extended to provide a longer effective kill time but still disappear.

Properly used according to straightforward label instructions, these natural insect control products have a low environmental effect. Once exposed to the natural environment, the Pyrethrum degrades to leave no known negative effects that would accumulate in the environment, the natural food chain, or in our food supplies. This combination of a very lethal insect killer combined with having a low environmental effect makes our insect control products nearly perfect insecticides.

Lethal to Insects – Diatomaceous Earth

Diatomaceous Earth, which is also called DE or silicon dioxide, is as chemically inert as road dust, but when properly used, it is very effective against insect pests. Unlike ‘chemical insecticides’ of the last half of the 20th Century, DE is a ‘physical’ or ‘mechanical’ insecticide.

Knowledge of one fact about insects and two facts about DE is required in order to understand how DE can have no known negative effect to humans and yet be very effective in killing insects.

Insects control their body moisture by means of a complex ‘waxy’ coating on the outside of their exoskeletons, i.e., their shells. This coating is naturally porous, which permit slow loss of water and evaporation. If the waxy coating is damaged, the insect suffers serious injury.

DE is made up of ancient skeletal remains of diatoms. These one-celled creatures have hard, sharp structures that are small enough to cut or pierce the insect’s waxy coating. But the structures are so small that DE feels as soft as baby powder to humans.

DE is also an excellent absorbent that is used in cleaning oils spills or kitty litter. This strong absorbency literally sucks the life fluid from insects. Because this is a mechanical process, DE can be literally effective forever. However, this is also a slow process when used alone.

The pest control products used combine DE with a second of Mother Nature’s gifts, Pyrethrum from African Daisies. Pyrethrum is a lethal nerve irritant to insects in very small doses, but it has no known toxicity to warm blooded or higher animals such as mammals or birds.

Synthetic Sassafras Oil for Longer Lasting Effectiveness – Piperonyl Butoxide

Piperonyl Butoxide, or PBO, is not an insecticide but is a synthetic sassafras oil. Different parts of the sassafras tree have been used as food additives for years. Sassafras tea has been made for many years and sarsaparilla, the flavor in root beer is the extract from sassafras trees.

Sassafras is used as an inexpensive synergist to reduce the amount of pyrethrum required to kill insects and thus reducing the cost of our insect control products. Originally extracted from a variety of Sassafras, PBO is now synthesized to make it available on a sustainable basis in quantities greater than possible from the wild. PBO has no known toxicity and when properly combined with Pyrethrum, the effectiveness of Pyrethrum is enhanced many fold. In addition, PBO retards the rapid oxidation of Pyrethrum to both, improves its shelf life, and increases the effective life of Pyrethrum in the field. So rest assured,New Era Pest Control “Go Green” Service uses only those products that are safe for your home, family and pets.

Do I really Need a Pest Control Company?

The National Pest Management Association says: “If public health is top priority for communities across the country, then so should pest and rodent control. Pests and rodents aren’t simply a nuisance – they can severely affect your health and the health of your family.

This is why proper pest control is critical in homes, businesses, schools and any other place where human beings live, work or play. Pest control is not just a matter of protecting your most valuable investment; it’s a matter of protecting what’s most valuable to you!”

After my first visit, when will you come back?
Depending on the service plan selected for your particular needs, you can expect us to notify you of the next service and re-mind you of that date via e-mail or phone.
If I notice a pest problem after my regular service, will you come back?

In some cases, it is common to see an increase in insect activity right after our treatment, as we are placing stress in their environment. These insects seek refuge from these stresses and will in some cases, attempt to flee their environment for more suitable harborage, thus seeming to appear like more of a problem. However this is not normally the case. In any event, If the problem persists after several days, we’ll return at no charge.

What is meant by the term “Initial Service”?

In some cases, your home or business may be experiencing an infestation of a particular insect problem and may require an Initial Service to gain control over the infestation. This types of service normally takes a great deal more work to accomplish control, and thus may initially cost more. Once the Initial is performed and control is gained, then a lower cost for maintaining (maintenance) the home will go into effect. Your technician will advise you if an Initial service is required.

Are your Pest Control Services Guaranteed?
Yes! We do offer a full guarantee on our services.
When Insecticides are needed, which ones do you use?

When insecticides are needed, some of the most common “Natural” insecticides would include Pyrethrums carefully mixed with Diatomaceous Earth or Synthetic Sassafras Oil, amongst others. Careful placement and other factors are key to the removal of these pests, with the utmost concern for life, and the environment.

Is Your Pest Control Safe for Children and Pets?

Yes! Our IPM approach is an effective and environmentally sensitive approach to natural pest management that relies on a combination of natural, common-sense practices and is based on our knowledge and understanding of insect biology’s, environments, habits and natural habitats. The use of these practices, baits, and techniques assist us in controlling pests the natural way, using very little insecticides! Improving sanitary conditions, monitoring and correcting landscaping and structural conditions, assists us in keeping those pesty critters from entering your home, Naturally!
